A vintage Le Coultre Powermatic

I begin the month of June with the third of what I fondly call a 'trinity' of Le Coultre watches is this vintage Powermatic that features a bumper automatic movement and a power reserve indicator. This is one of those watches that were ahead of its time in terms of technology and craftsmanship.

The relatively immaculate dial shows the watch does not have any other complication except the power reserve indicator below the 12 o'clock hour marker.

This angle shows the blued second hand

Side view showing the elegant lugs, the crown and blued second hand. The photo also highlights the exquisite lug design on this watch.

The other side view showing the overall good condition of the case. Notice again the fancy lugs on this watch.

The case back with an engraving stating this to be 10K gold filled. I tried to find what 'L & K' means here. Instead of it being related to the gold, it seems this stands for "Love & Kisses". Perhaps this was a gift to a loved one?

The model were the first watches to have a power reserve indicator. Red indicates this to be 10 hours or less remaining.

A few shakes or wrist tine (watch use) will 'charge' the watch. Here, the power reserve indicator shows tha watch to have 15+hours of power.

The inside of the case back showing what looks like a serial number. The watch was cased and timed in the USA. "L&K" again appears on the inside of the cover so it probably has a meaning related to the gold.

Inside the watch is a Cal. 481 bumper automatic movement that runs at 18,000 A/h with a power reserve of 40 hours.

Wrist shot the first time I wore the watch

I have another Powermatic that I acquired from the same source in San Francisco, USA. I will feature these two together as soon as I get their straps changed.
